Copperhead 29

The BULLS Copperhead 29 is the ideal cross country/marathon bike. The Copperhead series feature a geometry that sits the rider in a slightly more upright position, which makes it ideal for anyone looking into a more comfortable bike or looking to ride on the saddle all day. This 29r model comes equipped with Shimano’s best valued groupset, Shimano Deore XT. The components are highly praised for being lightweight but even more important they are reliable and durable. The Components sit on a 7005 triple butted aluminum frame. The process involves reducing the excessive material in the tubing where it is not needed for stiffness. The BULLS Copperhead 29 also features a tapered headtube which improves the response on the steering as well as helps with front wheel tracking. The frame is then matched with a 100mm travel RockShox Reba fork along with a remote lock out. This bike is the perfect cross country all-rounder. It is no wonder why the Copperheads have been one of BULLS best sellers since it was released back in 2007

10-Speed Drive Train
It is an upgrade from it 9-speed predecessor. It basically allows for a finer selection of gears, thus improving efficiency and power
F100mm
The travel of the front suspension is 100 mm, which allows for a smooth ďswallowĒ of small and large impacts and beats resulting in a better adhesion to the ground
Press Fit
Press Fit bearings are pressed directly into the frame, rather than screwed. The press-fit inner bearing guarantees higher bicycle stiffness, thus increasing the lifespan of the bearings and overall lower weight
Shimano Shadow Plus
Shimano's Shadow Plus clutch mechanism prevents the lower arm of the derailleur from pivoting forward, meaning that the chain is kept under considerably more tension. The claimed benefits are many: Less chain slap, fewer dropped chains, more stable and accurate shifting over rough terrain and ultimately a much better and quieter ride
Tailored Chainstays
Higher frames require longer chainstays. The result is a much improved climbing capacity, which is relevant in large frames. After all, the centre of gravity clearly shifts backwards with a taller rider, specifically during the climb. Taller riders also need more space since they usually have longer feet, and for the longer cranks to avoid touching the chainstays with their heels
Tapered Steerer
This is semi-integrated headset with an inner diameter of 1 1/8 inch at the top and 1 1/2 inch at the bottom. This ensures best riding stability and excellent control head stiffness. The biggest shaft results in stiffer fork and frame as riding forces are spread more evenly thanks to a thicker head tube
Triple Butted
To save even more on frame weight, the double butting process is refined by stepping down the material at the ends of the tube. This means the butting starts out in the standard, double-butted manner but then is thinned before stepping down again to the normal tube wall thickness. In a cutaway, the inside of the tube looks like three terraced rice paddies on a hillside

My new Copperhead arrived this week and I took it out for its inaugural ride yesterday, so this is a very early review, but so far I am very impressed with this bike. The bike arrived in 5 days (West coast to East coast) and went together very easily. The instructions were clear and I made sure to use a torque wrench to meet all of the torque specs. The only thing I changed was to convert it to 1X10 right out of the box, as this is just such a nice setup. The conversion was very easy and cheap as the bike already comes with a clutch-type derailleur (which is a nice touch). So Iím running a Sunrace 11-42 on the rear cassette and a 30 tooth chainring on the front. The added bonus is this dropped the (already very light) bike down below 25 lbs. The quality of the Copperhead components and (especially the frame) is impressive. Even the petals, which are less expensive Wellgoís, are light (250 grams!). When I picked up the completed bike I was just really impressed with itís lightness. My wife and I went for a ride yesterday, on some single-track, in the Pisgah National Forest (Western NC) and it was just such a joy to ride. Bullís set the front fork up according to my weight and you could tell. The frame geometry suited me very well and the overall handling and responsiveness made for a lot of fun on the trail. I know itís early in my ownership of this bike, but Iím very please with the purchase so far. The bike has exceeded my expectations and seems like a very good value for the money. Note: During the buying process I had some questions about sizing (Iím right on the border between a medium and a large) and found Bullís to be very helpful and responsive in answering my questions (thanks Barney!). One added bonus, itís super cool having a bike thatís a bit unusual on the trails clogged with Yetiís and Specialized. The Copperhead downtube even has some German writing on it a laí the old country. Nice!..
